Day 4 Kyoto
After checking in to Hana Hostel and a welcome rest and shower, we were ready for dinner, but we didnt want to venture too far away.
So we went for dinner at Kyoto Station which has many good and famous dining outlets at the 11F of Isetan.
| Kyoto Tower at night. |
Kyoto Station has a futuristic design and it is a vast complex with hotels, restaurants and shopping mall. You can ride this long escalator up to the 11F where the restaurants are.
Our dinner tonight is the famous Katsukura Tonkatsu. There was a long queue
and we had to wait for 20 mins for our table.
English menu is available for gaijin like us.
We were served sesame seeds and from observing other diners, we did the right thing too. We have to ground the sesame seed with the mini mortar.
Once the sesame seeds are grounded, add in the various sauces to own preferences. This is the dipping sauce for our tonkatsu. ( deep fried pork cutlet)
Yonezawa Sangen Sirloin Cutlet 160g, the house speciality. This is a delicious thick cut of pork sirloin.
I personally loves some fat in my meat, not healthy but its delicious !!
Ayi as usual wanted a smaller portion, so here's her Yonezawa Sangen Pork Fillet 80g.
This is a lean cut meat, but still very good and tasty....
Both pieces of tonkatsu was excellent but i still prefer the sirloin cut to fillet as i think a little bit of fat will give the tonkatsu more flavour.
The tonkatsu was crispy on the outside and yet the meat inside was juicy and tender. Absolutely delicious ! No wonder there is a long queue here for dinner.
And the best part of this meal is, they give you unlimited refill of cabbage, barley rice and miso soup.
Cost of dinner, Y1780 for the sirloin and Y1280 for the fillet. Good value for money. A wonderful and great meal here.
